CORPUS CHRISTI -- A couple from Fort Worth was vacationing in Port Aransas when their home was invaded by two men earlier this year. The two suspects are now on trial. Freddy Hudson and his wife Mala Hudson testified about what happened the night of January 24th when two men walked into their home, uninvited.
"I think about this every day and think about what happened, what I should've been doing and what else I could've done," Mr. Hudson said.
His wife also testified before the jury, spilling her heart out about the terrifying experience. "I thought I was going to die, when he said he had to kill us because we saw his face, I thought this is it," Mrs. Hudson said.
Both told the jury they thought they were living the last day of their lives because of that violent home invasion. The two identified suspects, 29-year-old Christopher Shaw and 32-year-old James Mason, are accused of beating the couple while demanding money.
"He pushed me down then grabbed the grafting table that was there and started hitting me with that," Mr. Hudson said.
"He had me by the hair and pushing me down and pulling my hair at the same time while I was trying to get my billfold open and give him some more money," Mrs. Hudson said.
They also testified that Mason and Shaw took about $800, but that cash wasn't enough to get the men to leave.
"I was yelling at him to leave, he had our money, he had our phones, just to leave, to leave and finally James Mason ran out the door," Mrs. Hudson said.
Mason may have left the home, but according to the Hudsons, Shaw wasn't finished with the attack.
"The main thing I remember about Mr. Shaw is when it was going on was he was just full of hate, rage and he enjoyed what he was doing," Mr. Hudson said.
"He threw him into the wall and threw him into the wall so hard that it broke the sheet rock," Mrs. Hudson said.
The jury was shown pictures of the damaged wall and some of the injuries the Hudsons suffered. Such as lacerations on Mr. Hudson's face and severe bruising to Mrs. Hudson's neck and chest.
The couple says the incident has left them in fear ever since. "We think about it all the time, it's never very far from our mind," Mrs. Hudson said.
Mason and Shaw face life in prison if found guilty.
