PEARLAND, TX - A 5th grade boy at a school just outside Houston decided to use his school service project to help a teen from Portland.
Nicholas Andrew chose to sell barbecue lunches, today, to help raise money for Kristene Chapa. Chapa and her girlfriend Mollie Olgin were shot at a Portland park in June. Olgin died from her injuries and Chapa was critically injured.
Though she continues to recover, her medical expenses are piling up and Nicholas wanted to help with the costs. His mom said her son was busy selling barbecue plates all day long!
"Even though it was raining and cold all day long, they came anyway and we even made more money than we had expected," said his mother, Eva Guerra. Nicholas raised $700 for the Chapa family.
