CORPUS CHRISTI - Veteran war correspondent Joe Galloway was honored by Texas A&M Corpus Christi today by being named university's first 'journalist in residence.'
He'll be teaching journalism and media students at the university. Galloway told us, "I've been doing events over here for 10 years, from commencements, speeches, lectures, ROTC stuff. It was just a natural progression as we talked about the challenges of entering the profession of journalism for young people today."
Galloway is well-known for his time as UPI reporter accompanying soldiers during the start of the Vietnam War.
His book about his experiences in 1965 were featured in the film 'We Were Soldiers', and more recently in the History Channel's 'Vietnam in HD.'
Galloway has also reported during wartime from Kuwait and Iraq.
The Refugio native now resides in Bayside.
