INGLESIDE - Friends of 19-year-old Mollie Olgin and 18-year-old Mary Christine Chapa this afternoon gathered at Ingleside High School to process the mix of emotions running through their heads and hearts. Saturday they learned of the terrifying discovery some visitors stumbled upon at a Portland park.

Police say Olgin and her girlfriend, Mary Christine Chapa were found in a grassy area. They say Chapa was rushed to the hospital with a gun shot wound to her head. Olgin also appeared to have been shot, but she didn't survive.

"You always hear, 'They never did anything wrong. Why was it them? They were so innocent.' In all actuality, Mollie and Christine were innocent. They never did anything wrong," said Samantha Garrett, Olgin's roommate.

She and Stephanie Chasak, who worked with Olgin at Taco Cell can't begin to understand why someone would target their dear friends. They say the girls never attracted any negative attention for their relationship, which started five months ago. "I've been trying to think of anybody I know that would try and hurt them for any reason -especially them being a couple, and not one person has ever come to mind," she said.

Friends of the couple say both girls constantly exuded love and laughter. The pair always got a kick out of playing jokes on their friends and they loved eating their favorite food, chicken wings.

Garrett says the reality that her roommate is gone hasn't quite set in. "It's going to be really hard this next week whenever I have to walk past her room and I'm moving stuff out. It's definitely going to be weird," said Garrett. For now she and her friends are trying to focus their energy on prayers that Chapa makes a full recovery.

The girls say the Coastal Bend Blood Center is accepting blood donations for Mary Christine Chapa all day tomorrow. For more information call the blood center's phone number: (361) 855-4943.
