CORPUS CHRISTI - The shooting at the Lone Star College in Houston just a few days ago prompted Del Mar College here in Corpus Christi to send out text messages today. Text messages that could someday save student and faculty lives.
"And of course with recent occurrences in the news, it's critically important we have some way to get information out quickly," said Associate Director of College Relations Jimmy Knioum.
So the school sent out a test email and text alert through their DMC Emergency alert system. Knowing if there ever were a shooter on campus they will be prepared.
If you didn't receive that test email or text message and would like to update your information so you can, all you would have to do is go to www.delmar.edu/dmcalert. From that site is where is where you can up date all your information.
Students I spoke with say having this alert system makes them feel more safe.
"Someone that is having an issue, a shooting, over in the science building if we're over in the math building there's no way for us to know. It's a good way for us to be alerted," said Brandy Leininger.
