Conman Caught With Forged Money

ANNAVILLE - Police say they arrested a Robstown man for using fake money. As Mitch Bryan reports, a Corpus Christi couple helped officers in their investigation.
"Get that camera out of my face."
This would-be conman wasn't happy to see our cameras outside the HEB in Annaville right after his own "mark" caught him in the act.
Elyssa Salazar and her husband were loading their groceries into their car when this man walked up to them and asked if they had change for a $100 bill.
"And I told my husband and he said yeah, that he did. So they got together when he started walking off, my husband looked at the bill and saw that it was fake," said Salazar.
That's right, this grifter altered a smaller bill to look like a $100 bill.
"It looked fake, it looked very old and it had a picture. It does have the picture inside of the bill, like when you hold it up to the light. But it was a picture of the $5 bill," Elyssa said.
And as the swindler strolled off, Elyssa and her husband noticed the sham money and told the cops.
Slazar told us, "We called 911 because that's just not right. We could have lost $100 and $100 doesn't come easy these days."
Officers caught up with him a ways down the road and took him into custody. Though a scam-artist, Elyssa says he wasn't rude or threatening.
"Like, he wasn't mad or angry that we had asked for our money back. But he knew he had gotten caught," she said.
But either way, he is on his way to jail and the Salazars are glad they checked the cash before letting him leave.
"That's not right that people do that. Even for somebody like me. I'm just a regular housewife and I work and that's not right," said Elyssa.
Officers say they man will face forgery charges, for holding 3, fake, $100 bills.
