CLAREVILLE -- A cemetery in the small community of Clareville -- that's between Mathis and Beeville -- received a much-needed cleanup today.
The couple that organized the event says they're touched by the community's support in making this happen.
It's a true testament of what can be accomplished when people come together for a good cause.
Organizer Elsa Munoz said, "I didn't expect to get that big of a response and it's just beautiful."
A large group of people showed up today at the San Pedro Cemetery in Clareville.
The goal is to get this place cleaned up.
Martin and Elsa Munoz talked to us about the mess at this cemetery earlier this week.
They organized a clean-up event to clear out large piles of trash.
Trash, so high in fact, some of it covered an actual gravesite!
Volunteers also trimmed the grass and weeds, cleaned off the headstones and carted the trash...far away from this cemetery.
Volunteer Armador Ramirez said, "We saw on Channel 6, Martin and his wife were talking about coming over and helping out. And I see a lot of togetherness."
Wome of the people who helped say they don't have loved ones buried here, but felt the need to do what's right.
Barbara Baravik said, "My husband said we have the tools and the time, let's do it. So, we decided to come out and help them out."
So after hours and hours of work, the cemetery looks like new and the volunteers who helped, some complete strangers, say they left feeling like family.
The Munoz's say they would like to hold a clean up event at the San Pedro Cemetery at least once a month.
