Brown Bag Challenge Brings The Holidays To The Homeless

CORPUS CHRISTI - With Christmas Eve only 2 hours away one group of volunteers set out to feed the hungry downtown.
50 volunteers filled The House Of Rock tonight to help bring some Christmas cheer to those who don't have a place to call home for the holidays.
"I have so much so I feel like I should give back to the community," said Camille Sico, a volunteer.
These volunteers from all walks of life, put together 300 bags for the 12th Annual, Brown Bag Challenge.
Inside, sandwiches, fruit, hygiene products and of course, a hot BBQ plate for everyone!
But these volunteers wouldn't wait for the homeless to come to them, they have a more direct approach.
With their Christmas dinners and presents loaded up, the group high-tailed it to City Hall, where they were immediately greeted by the surprised needy.
"Fantastic, I mean, I didn't expect this, you know," said one homeless man.
Soon a crowd had gathered and everyone got what they needed for the holidays.
For some, it was the food, for others, it was all about the presents.
Many sat right down and dug into the hot meal. Meanwhile the volunteers reflected on the state of the less fortunate and were grateful for their own blessings.
"We don't have anything but ourselves and everyone gives a little bit and it ends up being a whole lot," said Omar Lopez, another volunteer.
"It's not just what you get. It's who you give to and who you help, so it's great," Celeste Lutz added.
And with that, a little more hope during this special time of year.
"Thank you for everything, for helping all the homeless," said a homeless man.
