BISHOP, Texas - Bob Hilliard, the attorney for Tim Zahn's family, showed us an animated re-enactment of the explosion at the Oxea Plant in Bishop last October 10th that eventually killed the 53 year old Zahn. Hilliard explained what happened. "There had been a leaking valve allowing hydrogen into the vessel. The explosion came out of the manway cover like a jet engine and he was thrown to the railing right behind the manway cover and pinned as the flames escaped the vessel," he told us.
Zahn suffered third degree burns to more than 50 per cent of his body and had to be airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he died November
10th.
Hilliard says Zahn was an operator at the plant and had worked there more than 20 years. And was well-liked by his co-workers. "The phrase used to describe him in every single deposition was 'he would go above and beyond' to help his fellow workers," Hilliard added.
In fact, according to Hilliard, workers said that's what Zahn was doing when the explosion occurred...going above and beyond to help them.
Zahn's wife Sara filed suit against Oxea, Mundy Maintenance Services and Operations, and Industrial Turnaround and Construction, claiming negligence.
And last week both sides agreed to a confidential out-of-court financial settlement. Zahn is survived by his wife Sara and 2 children.
