Bar Dispute Settled

CORPUS CHRISTI - A dispute between the former and current owners of The Reserve on Everhart Road has been resolved before heading to court.
The current ownership of The Reserve accused James Gonzales violating the terms of their sales contract that prevented him from opening an alcohol establishment within a mile of The Reserve.
Gonzales new establishment is Izzy's, just off of SPID, between Weber and Everhart.
The Reserve owners also blamed Gonzales for loss of business and hiring away some of its employees.
Back on November 22nd, District Judge Jose Longoria had issued a temporary restraining order for Izzy's to shut down until a hearing scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving.
But less than 24 hours later the judge reversed his decision allowing Izzy's to stay open. That prompted Tuesday's scheduled hearing.
But late Tuesday afternoon, both sides agreed to a confidential settlement.
"The parties are in agreement.. of amicably resolving their differences and will be doing that in the near future. We're passing on our hearing today," said Reserve attorney Juan Reyna.
A source tells us the agreement will allow Izzy's to stay open as long as they abide by the terms of the settlement. What those terms are will remain confidential.
Reyna and attorney Joe Flores represent several bars in town and told us commercial businesses prefer to settle legal disputes this way.
"Parties are going to admit liability. They're trying to resolve their issues amicably, but nobody's going to say "I stepped it in and I was wrong.' Their trying to resolve these issues without a public display," Flores said.
