ALICE -- Before getting to the regular agenda, Alice city council members took a brief moment to talk about the recent increase in gang violence there.
The big thing council members wanted to get across to residents is that they are safe and the police department is doing a great job keeping things under control.
Council members said the best thing Alice residents can do right now is simply unite and let the police department do their job.
The mayor pro-tem added people spreading rumors on Facebook and exaggerating the facts will only make the situation worse.
She said, "We are not the wild west. There are not bullets being shot in every single corner. I have a lot of concerned relatives who are feeling that's going on and I think some people have been putting things on Facebook that may be a little big agitating and they might be getting the wrong impression of our city."
We did try to talk to council members after the meeting, but they referred us to the city manager who didn't want to do an interview either.
He said saying anything now, could jeopardize the police department's operation to get the gang members -- responsible for these shootings -- behind bars.
