CORPUS CHRISTI - Michael Aguirre will spend up to 15 years behind bars for a 2011 DWI crash that David Garner, plus another 2 years for driving while intoxicated with a child.
A jury convicted Aguirre on both counts Thursday afternoon after only one hour of deliberation. Prosecutors argued he was under the influence when he slammed his Cadillac Escalade into the back of Garner's Honda on S.P.I.D.
Witnesses testified seeing Aguirre punched the victim's lifeless body immediately after the crash. At the time, Aguirre was with his girlfriend and their 8-month-old daughter.
Passersby kept the suspect from leaving the crash scene.
