CORPUS CHRISTI - A female pedestrian is struck and killed by a car as she was walking across Ayers near Horne just before seven this evening.
Police say the 75-year-old woman crossed the street in front of a car going southbound on Ayers. The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, told police he simply did not see the woman in the roadway. The car struck the woman, throwing her around 20 feet, she died at the scene from severe head injuries.
Investigators say the woman was not in a crosswalk when she was hit.
Police released the driver of the car, after interviewing him. They say the driver was not speeding nor was impaired at the time, and since the woman was not in a crosswalk, it is unlikely the driver will face any charges.
Traffic on Ayers was reopened almost two hours later.
