CORPUS CHRISTI -- Thousands of kids got backpacks full of free school supplies this weekend.
The event is called "More Than A Backpack."
The Corpus Christi Baptist Association gave away 5,000 bags over the weekend to bless families during a tough economy.
This give-away took place at the Second Baptist Church this afternoon.
A festival was also held there with snow cones, hotdogs, popcorn and music.
One of the children who received a backpack says it will help him get started in the new school year.
Gabriel Galindo said, "I would like to say thanks and I hope we get to do this again next year."
