CORPUS CHRISTI - Border Patrol officials announced today that more than $12.6 million worth of marijuana and cocaine were intercepted by agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector in the past four days.

Last Friday, agents working the Falfurrias checkpoint on Highway 281 seized nearly 4,500 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the trailer of a big rig. On the same day, agents at the Sarita checkpoint along Highway 77 found more than 2,600 pounds of marijuana stashed inside a grain hopper on a flatbed trailer.

The other seizures occurred further south. On Sunday, agents near La Rosita spooked several suspects loading bundles of marijuana into a pickup near the Rio Grande. The suspects swam back to Mexico, leaving 1,100 pounds of marijuana behind.

In a release, officials said there were additional, but smaller, marijuana seizures and a bust of 70 pounds of cocaine. Details were not provided on those incidents.
